New Madagascan Institute for Vaccine Research Inaugurated on 10 December 2021
THECA welcomed the new year in with its Annual Consortium Meeting on 24th January 2022. Sadly the meeting was held online rather than in person but this was compensated for by the many exciting reports on the achievements of the THECA partners over the last year. In DRC a census of households was completed in the Kisantu Health Zone in preparation for the mass vaccination campaign taking place in 2022. Typhoid surveillance started in August 2022 and involves the main hospital in the health zone and key health centres. In Ghana typhoid surveillance started in March 2020 followed by a cluster randomised trial of TCV vaccination in August 2021, both of which are ongoing. In Madagascar, where the new Institute for Vaccine Research was inaugurated in December 2021, preparations are underway for TyCOMA a mass vaccination study to inform the introduction of TCV vaccination.
